Praying for your Spouse

We as Christians and children of Almighty God are instructed in many of the verses of Sacred Scripture to pray.  In Ephesians 6:8 “Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.

Husbands,  the first person that should and must be on your prayer list is your wife.  My darling Snowie came across a nice break down on praying for your wife and vise versa.  I’m going to break it down here.   All scripture comes from the New Living Translation.

Praying for your Wife from Head to Toe
Pray for Her Brain
Pray that God would mold her into a capable, intelligent and virtuous woman and would keep her thoughts, centered on whatever is true, lovely, right, pure, noble, and worthy of praise.

Proverbs 31:10: Who can find a virtuous and capable wife? She is more precious than rubies.

Philippians 4:8: And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.

Pray for Her Eyes
Ask God to give her eyes of compassion, so she could see others as He sees them.

Matthew 9:36: When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them because they were confused and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.

1 Samuel 16:7b: The LORD doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”

Pray for Her Ears
Pray that she would listen for God’s still, small voice and would remain ever attentive to His promptings.

Isaiah 30:9: that these people are stubborn rebels who refuse to pay attention to the LORD’s instructions.

1 Thessalonians 5:19: Do not stifle the Holy Spirit.

Pray for Her Mouth
Ask that God would fill her mouth with skillful and godly wisdom, that the law of kindness would remain on her tongue, and that she would only and always speak the truth in love.

Proverbs 31:26: When she speaks, her words are wise, and she gives instructions with kindness.

Ephesians 4:15: Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church.

Pray for Her Heart
Pray that God would fill your wife’s heart with love and respect for you and with tender patience toward your children.

Ephesians 5:33: So again I say, each man must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.

1 Thessalonians 2:7: As apostles of Christ we certainly had a right to make some demands of you, but instead we were like children among you. Or we were like a mother feeding and caring for her own children.

Pray for Her Arms
Ask God to gird your wife with strength, making her arms strong and firm.  Pray that He would bless the work of her hands and that she would do her work cheerfully, as unto Him.

Proverbs 31:17,31: She is energetic and strong, a hard worker. Reward her for all she has done. Let her deeds publicly declare her praise.

Colossians 3:23: Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.

Pray for Her Womb
Pray that God would bless the fruit of her womb by giving her children who walk in truth.

Psalm 127:3: Children are a gift from the LORD; they are a reward from him.

3 John 1:4: I could have no greater joy than to hear that my children are following the truth.

Pray for Her Legs
Ask God to strengthen and sustain your wife, so that she can walk and not faint and will not tire of doing good.

Isaiah 40:31: But those who trust in the LORD will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.

2 Thessalonians 3:13: As for the rest of you, dear brothers and sisters, never get tired of doing good.

Pray for Her Feet
Pray that her feet would be shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace so that she might faithfully pursue righteousness and love.  Ask God to lead her in the path of wisdom and truth and to keep her foot from stumbling.

Ephesians 6:15: For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared.

Proverbs 21:21: Whoever pursues righteousness and unfailing love will find life, righteousness, and honor.

Proverbs 4:11-12: I will teach you wisdom’s ways and lead you in straight paths. When you walk, you won’t be held back; when you run, you won’t stumble.

Wives likewise pray for your husbands.

Praying for your Husband from Head to Toe.
 Pray for His Brain
Ask that God would keep it sharp and focused and that his thoughts would not be conformed to this world, but would be transformed and renewed by the Power of God.

Romans 12:2: Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

Pray for His Eyes
Ask that he would guard them diligently and set no worthless thing before them.

Psalm 101:3: I will refuse to look at anything vile and vulgar. I hate all who deal crookedly; I will have nothing to do with them.

Pray for His Ears
Ask that they’d be tuned to hear God’s still, small voice and that your husband would always remain attentive to the Holy Spirit’s prompting.

1 Thessalonians 5:19: Do not stifle the Holy Spirit.

Isaiah 30:9: that these people are stubborn rebels who refuse to pay attention to the LORD’s instructions.

Pray for His Mouth
Ask that no unwholesome talk would proceed from it, but only what is good for binding others up.  Pray that your husband would always and only speak the truth in love.

Ephesians 4:15,29: Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church. Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.

Pray for His Heart
Ask that Christ would sit enthroned upon it, that your husband would love God with all his heart and soul and might, that he’d love his neighbor as himself. (Mark 12:30-31: And you must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength. The second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ No other commandment is greater than these.”) Pray that his heart would remain soft towards you (Proverbs 5:18-19: Let your wife be a fountain of blessing for you. Rejoice in the wife of your youth. She is a loving deer, a graceful doe. Let her breasts satisfy you always. May you always be captivated by her love.), and to be knitted to the hearts of his children (Malachi 4:6: His preaching will turn the hearts of fathers to their children, and the hearts of children to their fathers. Otherwise I will come and strike the land with a curse.”).

Pray for His Arms
Ask that God would strengthen them and make them firm.  Pray that your husband would take delight in his labor and that God would bless the work of his hands.

Psalm 90:17: And may the Lord our God show us his approval and make our efforts successful. Yes, make our efforts successful!

Ecclesiastics 3:22: So I saw that there is nothing better for people than to be happy in their work. That is why we are here! No one will bring us back from death to enjoy life after we die.

Pray for His Legs
Ask that God would give him strength and stamina, that your husband might run with endurance the race that is set before him without growing weary or fainting along the way.

Hebrews 12:1: Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.

Isaiah 40:31: But those who trust in the LORD will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.

Pray for His Feet
Ask that they’d be quick to flee from temptation, to turn away from evil, and to faithfully pursue wisdom, righteousness, peace, love and truth.

2 Timothy 2:22: Run from anything that stimulates youthful lusts. Instead, pursue righteous living, faithfulness, love, and peace. Enjoy the companionship of those who call on the Lord with pure hearts.

Psalm 34:14: Turn away from evil and do good. Search for peace, and work to maintain it.

Proverbs 4:5-7: Get wisdom; develop good judgment. Don’t forget my words or turn away from them. Don’t turn your back on wisdom, for she will protect you. Love her, and she will guard you. Getting wisdom is the wisest thing you can do! And whatever else you do, develop good judgment.
